Ronald Reagan's one-liners

Travel Schedules Request a Speaker Fr. Frank Pavone Fr. Denis G. Wilde, O. Janet Morana Dr.

President Reagan today renewed his call for a constitutional ban on abortion, equating the issue with the Civil War struggle to end slavery and contending that aborted fetuses suffer ''long and agonizing'' pain. In his first address as a declared candidate for re-election, Mr. Reagan focused on the social issues in an address to the National Religious Broadcasters convention here. Reagan, whose political strategists are counting on strong support from fundamentalist religious groups, called for a constitutional amendment to permit voluntary prayer in public schools and spoke sympathetically of a group of fundamentalist Christian parents in Nebraska who have fought with state authorities over whether teachers at their school must be certified. He also denounced child pornography.

The 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade is a good time for us to pause and reflect. Our nationwide policy of abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy was neither voted for by our people nor enacted by our legislators - not a single state had such unrestricted abortion before the Supreme Court decreed it to be national policy in But the consequences of this judicial decision are now obvious: since , more than 15 million unborn children have had their lives snuffed out by legalized abortions. That is over ten times the number of Americans lost in all our nation's wars.
