Ultimate tic-tac-toe also known as super tic-tac-toe , strategic tic-tac-toe , meta tic-tac-toe , or tic-tac-tic-tac-toe-toe is a board game composed of nine tic-tac-toe boards arranged in a 3-by-3 grid. Compared to traditional tic-tac-toe, strategy in this game is conceptually more difficult, and has proven more challenging for computers. Each small 3-by-3 tic-tac-toe board is referred to as a local board, and the larger 3-by-3 board is referred to as the global board. The game starts with X playing wherever they want in any of the 81 empty spots. This move 'sends' their opponent to its relative location. For example, if X played in the top right square of their local board, then O needs to play next in the local board at the top right of the global board.
Step 2: Strategy 1
You will learn the concept of the Minimax algorithm that is widely and successfully used across the fields like Artificial Intelligence , Economics , Game Theory , Statistics or even Philosophy. The player who succeeds in placing three of their marks in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row wins the game. Formally speaking, Tic Tac Toe is a zero-sum and perfect information game. In a two-player A vs B game, if player A scores x points utility units , player B loses x points. Minimax is a recursive algorithm which is used to choose an optimal move for a player assuming that the opponent is also playing optimally. As its name suggests, its goal is to minimize the maximum loss minimize the worst case scenario. So this is the right move to make.
This means there is a known, mathematically proven strategy to follow for the best result each game. In Tic Tac Toe, two players who follow the right strategy will always tie, with neither player winning. Against an opponent who doesn't know this strategy, however, you can still win whenever they make a mistake. Once your friends pick up on your strategy, try a more difficult version of the rules. If you don't know how to play tic tac toe, learn the basic rules. If your opponent plays their first mark anywhere but the center, you can guarantee a win by playing your second move in the center. If your opponent plays their first mark in the center, they will have to make a mistake; otherwise, the game will be a tie.
Center — The square in the middle surrounded by all the other squares. Edge — A piece bordering the center. Corner — A piece bordered by two edge squares. Avoid placing your first piece on an edge square, and keep it on the center or a corner square. Placing it on an edge square will leave you vulnerable and give your opponent the advantage. If you play a corner piece first, there are only two significant response that your opponent can make: Center, or not center.
